Prof. Charles O’Neill, BA (Stellenbosch University), HBA and MBA (Potchefstroom University), PhD (Rhodes University), is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration at The British University in Egypt. Prior to joining the University he was Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management at the Pietermatitzburg Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Earlier in his career as Senior Lecturer, he lectured and introduced modules in Entrepreneurship and International Marketing at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa where he worked for twelve years. He has been Research Fellow at the Northern Ireland Small Business Institute, University of Ulster, a Small Business Consultant and Trainer at Fort Hare University in South Africa and Guest Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at The Vlerick School of Management, University of Gent, Belgium as well as the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prior to joining the academic world he worked in industry as Assistant General Manager of an Animal Feeds and Pet Food Factory and at a Trade Union in Johannesburg. In his academic career he specialised his research in the field of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development and developed numerous Entrepreneurship modules for various universities at both the undergraduate and post graduate level. He wrote 24 chapters in academic text books, published more than 40 academic journal articles and refereed  conference papers, supervised a large number of dissertations and theses, has been exminer for more than 20 PhD’s  and reviewed articles for numerous national and international academic journals. He is currently Associate Editor of the ISI Accredited South African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences, on the Editorial Advisory Board of the South African Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management and a Senior Research Associate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.  
 

Maria Aurora Sottimano holds a Laurea degree in Oriental Studies from the University of Turin (Italy); pursued a second Laurea in International Political Science from the same university; and holds a PhD degree in Politics from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), funded by the British Academy.

Dr Sottimano has over twenty years of experience in administration and management in the Italian Ministry of Justice, and has attained a solid expertise in Political Economy, Comparative Politics and International Relations acquired while pursuing her doctoral programme and conducting research in Syria, Lebanon, the UK, France, Italy, and Egypt. She is now a Lecturer at the British University in Egypt (BUE), Department of Political Science. Prior to joining the BUE, she was Researcher at Amsterdam University/HIVOS (Netherlands) and post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Orient Institut Beirut (OIB, Lebanon). 

Her research focuses on Syria and Middle East politics; the political economy of development and liberalization; authoritarianism; social movements and workers’ organizations. Her publications include “Nationalism and reform under Bashar al Asad: reading the legitimacy of the Syrian regime” in Hinnebusch, Raymond and Tina Zintl (eds.), Syria from Reform to Revolt: Political Economy and International Relations, Syracuse University Press, 2015  and Changing Regime Discourse in Syria, St Andrews Papers in Contemporary Syria, Lynne Rienner, 2008. She is a regular contributor to The Middle East and North Africa - Europa Regional Surveys of the World, Routledge. 

Dr. Sottimano is a Senior Fellow of the Centre for Syrian Studies, University of St Andrews (UK), and was a founding member of SeSAMO, Italian Society for Middle East Studies.

 
 

Professor Adams is the Head of Department of Economics at the British University in Egypt and was previously Director of the China-EU Research Centre based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He

was also the Economic Policy Adviser to Age Scotland prior to joining the BUE. He has

published widely in the field of economics in both national and international academic journals,

is the co-author of several textbooks and previously external examiner at the Universities of Dundee, Sussex, Abertay and Hong Kong.  Professor Adams has also undertaken consultancy assignments for a wide range of public and private sector organisations in the UK and

overseas. He   is currently a visiting Professor at three Universities in China. His research is mainly focused on economic development and on the process of development.

Professor Adams also provides training to Investment Promotion Agencies in several countries on attracting, managing and evaluating FDI.
